Time to buy AT&T stock while it's at $13.31 a share.

Wait till it hits 0.43 cents like Chrysler did and the Govnment with the help of Jimmy Carter will bail it out.

The stock will jump to $38 in Two day's ;D

would  using a low gage wire do the same as using all the wires??? I don't know if the shelding would have anything to do with it, but I'll do some looking around, if you want to ask you friend that?

Utilizing the sheilding is part of killing the interferance between you and the NID.
Keep in mind part of the problem with DSL is that certain things that send out or leak a radio type frequency, and will interfere. Like a 900Mhz phone or even having the modem right under the monitor or TV that leaks.
You migh be able to get away with Cat3 but that wasnt tested and the regular wiring or that type of thing your trying to replace. Plus Cat3 won't give the copper your looking for.

The only thing you might do or try is a thicker style of two wire. that might equil the Cat5 twisted. But that will still be prone to radio noise again. In other words doing it twice.

Just a note:
here's a message from someone that did it the way its shown.

Quote
yeah, i actually took the pics and the instructions and wired up my neighbor's NID. Increased his speed by at least 15%. I haven't been able to get out and do mine yet (cursed weather) hopefully this weekend tho. The diagrams helped for my old NID.

15% over what he was getting .. ? If your getting the 85% of your circuit now, that gets you to 100%  If all goes well and it might cost you about what you pay for one months service the most on a one time install.

I was thikning along the lines of using an 18 gage speaker wire, that would give you the same size of pipe line in the wire, but with only using two wires. but I had not thought about the type of wire too much. I know the speaker wire is copper but I don't know the mix of it or that of the cat5 for that matter. I guess I have little more looking around to do.

Cat5 or Cat5e has 8 wires running through it and all of them are twisted through the outer housing. Looks Just like the network wire you would use to run from the computer to the bridge if your using a network card.

List of things that can interfere
Microwaves
wireless intercom
Halogen lights or dimmers
900mhz phones
Video all  types if leaking through its sheilding
shortwave radio within the same room
motors in some cases
Florecent lights
Neighbors junk

All sorts of wired up for fun stuff..

I took those pictures and tried it out on my neighbors box, and it increased his speed by 15%. He was only getting around 60% since we're pretty far from the CO.
I have the older style NID, and did mine yesterday. I squeezed around 8% extra from mine.
