That claim is nothing but pure BULL****!!  I am currently using XP SP2 on all 14 of my machines and have no problem whatsoever tweaking with DrTCP.  I have gone in and changed multiple settings with no problems just to test this claim and everything works fine!!  By the way, can you tell us when the last time was that CableNut was updated??  Based on my research it was sometime in 2001.

Go back, look closer. The sniffer results are will read differant with SP2 and Win2003.

OHH so people dont get to confused the Cablenut program has had small addons but the program itself hasnt needed a update since March or April of 2000..

Please post results if differant than our finding

here's my results...
http://ttester.broadbandreports.com/tweak/block:5bce557?service=dsl&speed=1500&os=winXP&via=normal

The Rwin is my DefaultReceiveWindow not TcpWindowSize
The settings you maynot agree with but I wont give test results from my primary DSL account on my fixed IP's
But the information is correct..

Just so there's no confusion the official "sites" for the cablenut program are
cablenut.com, cablenut.org, Dslnuts.com and broadbandnuts.com.
To keep confusion at a minimum we direct most information from cablenut.com and support from broadbandnuts.com. If need be we can point cablenut.com directly to this server at anytime
we use download.com for feedback. WE wont get in a pissing contest and wont delete threads in this site We may however edit certain words since this is a site for kids as well

Glad to see a response, we don't delete posts here that we disagree with like DSLR, we allow people to post as they wish. :)

Could you please post a TweakTest result or TCP/IP Analyzer Test? I have installed SP2 on over 15 machines so far and what I wrote holds true for all of them. DrTcp or the TCPOptimizer no longer effects your RWIN value in the sniffer results.

8)
Set parameters outside what I normally use just to show they took.  And as far as the AFD is concerned I ran tests on another machine using Cablenut a couple of times and DrTCP a couple of times.  No difference in the line speeds after, so if the AFD is so important, how come I did not see a difference??

what settings did you use for the afd and  in cablenut if you want i could give you others settings to try there is some varaitons in the way they could be configured.

the afd  is not really a speed thing it can be in some cases especilly when basic tweaking wich the sg's optimzer or dr doesn't work as well as it should  it keeps the connection more stable speeds are more consitent.

Great read as always. Congrats to the whole CN crew for a great program that survived SP2. 8)
I was over at ABX and I saw this thread. The thread starter put together many links on SP2 that may be helpful to a few of you digging up info on the subject. Take note to the Neowin link at the bottom too.

Hello,

It is true that CableNut is the only tool that allows you set the DefaultReceiveWindow (which is an AFD parameter), but actually if you don't set it the size of the TCP window is set using the TcpWindowSize setting, which is the setting that most of the TCP optimizers out there change. Because by default the DefaultReceiveWindow is not set in SP2, other TCP tweaking software still do the job.

In general CableNut is the best tool out there for tweaking your network settings, it is the most flexible tool.  :)

Thanks,
Eric.

Hello,

I am the software author of 2005 FasterInternet PRO. We have also had support for AFD parameters for quite some time now (more than 1 and a half years). It has been fully functional with SP2 and automatically applies many updates for users of outdated OS.

The settings are automatically optimized and changed for the user (after a traceroute and other tests), so it might be difficult to see this without exploring the registry after optimization. A manual interface is also available for advanced users. Also, compression and proxying is used to speed up the Internet as well.

I am afraid to post any URL (it is my first post here afterall :-) dont want to get off on the wrong foot), so if you are interested in verifying this claim, you can PM me or do some googling ;D.

Thanks,
George Pabst

Hi George

Took you till now to get the AFD in your program  ;D ;D ;D

Cablenuts been out since 1999 and AFD was included in Jan 2000 fully...
NO I ot trying to be a Smart Arshe just pointing out it took allot of software developers a long time to find it..

As for finding the AFD the right way "you mentioned using ping and tracert" but didnt mention the download upload speeds for the AFD..

I guess I'll have to chk into your program to pick it apart hopefully we can colaberate on it to see if it can be made better... WE've talked about updating cablenut more BUT no one seems to complain about it to much and for us to find time to finish a re-right and add the other things to it..

The other problem and reason we didnt add the tracert or ping to Cablenut was that it woul add suspision of spyware which we dont beleave in here... I'll take a look

Thanks
dannjr
