Earthlink has been having problems with their DSL connections.
(No rumor there). Back in January one of there Large Routers went down around the 10th of the month connections were lost for about 5 hours when it cam back up the speed was slightly slower. (ok just warming up)
Turns out this is all around the time Enron went belly up. (use your imagination)
At the same time Earthlink was pushing commercials on TV. (Think People)
The lines got over sold and no upgrades in hardware. (Duh)
At the same time Ameritech/SBC Illinois was bailing out Covad. (Bankrupt)
Since covad provides the backbone in IL for ELink and now Ameritech has some control over Covad (you do the math)
This is the Kicker Ameritech has their new service 1500 down 256 up and its only $10 more than Elink Guess what They don't advertise it so Elink has no Idea of what's going on. Or they're blind to it.
All the services are the same.
Bottom line Ameritech/SBC in Illinois is in charge and ELink will never get the speed back that they had.
1. It's a union state
2.Ameritech owns the lines
3.If you get anything other than Ameritech you lose.
In fact in the near future Ameritech will be able to charge higher rates to outside local phone companies. Watch out people with local MCI.
Ok if that isn't bad enough Elink has been saying that they will have the lines fixed by the end of March now. They seem to say that every two weeks. (It will be the middle or end of the month)
Thank you Earthlink for ruining the whole winter season for all your subscribers.
